To summarize, this ruling states in no uncertain terms that diamonds and gemstones that are composed of their respective, same physical ingredients found in nature, that are "Created" or "Grown" in a lab setting, are in fact Real and Genuine.

The customer should ask, from here on, "Is it Mined from the Ground" or "Grown in a Lab".

Important ruling by the FTC [Federal Trade Commission]

The FTC has ruled that a Diamond* is a Diamond* whether it is grown in a Lab or mined from the Ground. To put it in context, The FTC is speaking directly of 100% Carbon Diamonds.

Furthermore, to qualify as a "Diamond" the stone in question must be constructed of 100%, wholly Elemental Carbon, Elemental Formula (C).

The proper terminology for these Man-Made all Carbon Diamonds are as Follows:

• Cultured Diamond
• Man-Made Carbon Diamond
• Man-Made Diamond
• Lab-Created Diamond
• Created Diamond
• Lab-Grown Diamond.

When making a Jewellery purchase with the above terms being used in the product description, please confirm the Stone you are purchasing is indeed, a 100% Carbon Diamond. Any disreputable business can use these terms to deceive you into buying a Diamond plated / Diamond coated Imitation, A reputable Jeweller, however, will confirm for you, that you are buying a 100% Carbon Diamond.

As a consumer, purchasing any article of Jewellery set with a 100% Carbon Diamond, you are in fact purchasing a Real, Genuine Diamond piece without regard to whether it is made in a Lab or Mined from the Ground. All are made of natural elements found on Planet Earth.

The same Holds true for Semi-Precious and Precious Gemstones produced in a Lab.

• Alexandrite is The mineral or gemstone Chrysoberyl. It is an aluminate of beryllium with the formula (BeAl₂O₄).
• Sapphire and Ruby is The mineral or gemstone Corundum. It is a crystalline form of aluminium oxide with the formula (Al₂O₃) typically containing traces of iron, titanium, vanadium and chromium.
• Emerald is a precious gemstone and a variety of the mineral Beryl with the formula (Be₃Al₂(SiO₃)₆) colored green by trace amounts of Chromium and trace amounts of Vanadium.

• Man Made [+ the name of the Gem]
• Lab Created [+ the name of the Gem]

Once again, When making a Jewellery purchase with the above described terms being used in the product description, please confirm the Gemstone you are purchasing is a Chrysoberyl [Alexandrite], a Beryl [Emerald or Aquamarine], or a Corundum [Sapphire or Ruby]. A disreputable business can use these terms to deceive you into buying a Colored Glass or Plastic Imitation, A reputable Jeweller will confirm that you are getting an actual gem material, not colored Glass or Plastic.

As a consumer, purchasing any article of Jewellery set with any of the above mentioned gemstones, you are in fact purchasing a Real, Genuine Gemstone piece without regard to whether it is made in a Lab or Mined from the Ground. All are made of natural elements found on Planet Earth.

The above referenced; Man Made Diamond, Alexandrite, Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald and Aquamarine were formerly referred to as Synthetics.

• These gems, Physically, are composed of the same chemical Elements as their mined counterparts.
• Their Colors are the same.
• Their Hardness is the same.
• Their Refractive Index is the same.
• They Sparkle and Reflect Light the same..
